New Season, New City, New Team

I can't believe that I have already been here for 7 weeks. I'm going to attempt to actually update my blog weekly this year. So I'm now playing for evo NBO in Oberhausen, Germany. I finally feel like I'm getting settled in and getting into somewhat of a routine. Our preaseason was a little crazy because we played 12 games in about 4-5 weeks. We played in Belgium, the Netherlands twice, a tournament in Germany, and another 2 games against a team here in Germany. During this time, we had alot of practices and team photoshoots and team marketing type things. I'm finally starting to settle down a little bit and get into somewhat of a routine. Our first league game was this past weekend. We are now 1-0! We have our first home game next weekend and I'm really looking forward to it.

I also just moved into my new, permanent apartment, and it is really nice. I live pretty close to everything.....the gyms we practice in, cafeteria we eat at, and the big shopping mall. Oberhausen is also pretty close to several other small cities and to Dusseldorf. We're not too far from Dortmund and Cologne, so I shouldn't get too bored. People always ask me, "so what do you do other than play basketball?" Well the answer is, not much. I have alot of down time but it's not really enough time to go too far away. So, we practice Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri nights, and Thurs, and Fri mornings at 7am.....yikes. The morning practices are mainly just shooting drills. I'm also helping one of my teammates coach an Under 11 girls team. It has been interesting so far. The most frustrating part is the language barrier and not being able to communicate effectively. On the days when my body doesn't hurt too bad, haha, I go to the gym to lift. Other than that, I do alot of hanging out, going to the mall, going to the supermarket, and doing random things for the team/club. My goal though, to help fill free time, is to really try and learn some more German. I can understand a decent amount but speaking it is another story. We'll see how that goes.

Unfortunately my camera is broken right now, so I don't have any new pictures of my new city, apartment, car, or teammates. I just came in 2nd place in a 3 point contest at our league season opening and won 200 euros, so I hope to buy a new camera this week! Also as soon as I figure out more place you can go to keep up with me and our team, I'll post them. Our team website is www.nbo92.de if you want to check it out. Until next week.......
